Birthed Out of Affliction / Anointed Through Suffering

daytonstreetpreach

God notices the afflicted Isralites Exodus 3:7-10 7And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Isaiah 48:10 10Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. ( Define furnace of Affliction - severe and grievous afflictions by which God purifies and proves His people.)

Define Affliction 1. The state of being afflicted; a state of pain, distress, or grief. 2. The cause of continued pain of body or mind, as sickness, losses, calamity, adversity, persecution.

Today we are going to be learning about how God saves His people through and from affliction. The Bible says “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all” (Psalms 34:19). There is no way to deliver yourself from affliction. Only God can save and deliver. In Job 36:15 it says “15He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.” So when you see the walls closing in and judgment falling do not give up. Fight! And don’t give up seeking God til He fully delivers you! And then stay with the Lord on the straight path forever!!!

Fleeing Egypt in Affliction Deuteronomy 16:3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.

( God wanted His people to trust Him, even in their affliction. This is a picture of God’s people who flee Egypt in their affliction to avoid the soon wrath to come. The unleavened bread represents having no leaven in your life and also having no time for there to be leaven. Leaving sin and the world in haste.)

Christ was afflicted and made perfect through suffering Hebrews 5:7-97Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (God is looking for willing participants that trust Him to take them through a refining process to perfect them. This is what all real men and women of God must do!)

He suffered and was afflicted that He might be a faithful High Priest! Hebrews 2:16-18 16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Israel will not turn to Him that smites him Isaiah 9:13 13For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts. ( Proverbs 19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.)

Who will God save 2 Samuel 22:28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

Afflict your souls Leviticus 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath. (What does it mean to afflict your souls? First of all know that this command was given on the Day of Atonement. So afflict our souls means we should reflect on sin and the great price that it cost and abhor it. )

What it looks like to afflict your souls James 4:7-10 7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

How did Josiah respond to sin? 2 Kings 22:11-13 11And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. 12And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying, 13Go ye, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

God’s response to Josiah 2 Kings 22:18-20 18But to the king of Judah which sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard; 19Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD. 20Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again. (After this Josiah made vows to God to serve Him with all His heart and obey Him only, and then burned up all the idolatry in the land! Even the Sodomite houses!)

Why is suffering so important 1 Peter 4:1-2 1Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.  (Just like Christ was made perfect through suffering. We too, are made perfect through suffering.)

After you have suffered a while you will be perfected 1 Peter 5:10-11 10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

What do we suffer for? Tribulation and persecution comes because of the Word Matthew 13:20-21  20But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

John imprisoned for the Word Revelation 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

What does this look like? 2 Corinthians 4:8-11 8We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

Suffering for Righteousness Matthew 5:10-11 10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (If you preach God’s Word like He commanded you will suffer for righteousness sake! Also, If you live Holy and are bold for Christ! Passive people are cowards and normally not persecuted.)

The prophets were our examples James 5:10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Luke 6:25-27 24But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.25Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. 26Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. 27But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

Philippians 1:27-30 27Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 29For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 30Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

1 Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

What does the Bible say about receiving the anointing?

We receive the anointing through overcoming trial and suffering! Revelation 2:26-28 26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28And I will give him the morning star. 29He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

What is this morning star? It is the anointing! What is the anointing. Basically, the anointing is the Holy Spirit! But it has other definitions too.

Define Anointing of the Holy Spirit - The Anointing is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. It enables the believer to understand, apply, and administer spiritual truth. Simply put, the presence of The Anointing enables believers to have a spiritual connection.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

We learn about the real anointing through physical anointing oil Exodus 27:20-21 20And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always. ( The pure olive oil would burn and give so the manora would give light all the time. Why beaten oil? Oil that was beaten burned much cleaner vs. olives that are crushed or pressed in a mill, which are full of sediment which results in a smoky flame. The highest quality oil is from olives beaten or pounded with a mortar and pestle. This clear and colorless oil produces a nearly smokeless flame with a bright pure light. Likewise, God chastens us and forms us by His Spirit to make us suitable for the pure anointing oil of God’s Spirit! Those who do not conform and yield have their lights taken away. Revelation 2:5 “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” The candlestick represents the Spirit of God! )

The Menorah in the Tabernacle – with its seven lamps – was lit with “oil for the light” (Exo.25:6). God told Moses, “Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure olive oil for the light, to make the lamps burn continually” (Lev.24:2). ( The menorah with its seven lamps represents the Seven Spirits of God which are before the throne which go out into all the World.

What does it mean to be “Anointed”? - It means to authorize, or set apart, a person for a particular work or service. The anointed person belonged to God in a special sense. All who are Christ’s true disciples are said to be anointed: they are God’s very own, set apart and commissioned for service. Priests, Kings, and Prophets were anointed. Oil was poured on the head of the person being anointed. Kings were set apart through the ritual of anointing, which was performed by a prophet who acted in God’s power and authority.

As we have been saying nowadays, the anointing represents the Holy Spirit. Even so, we still anoint leaders and christians with physical oil for prayer for healing or appointing someone to a position, etc. Those who have the anointing of God are the chosen of God for His purposes. Every believer that is Holy Ghost filled and in Christ Jesus is anointed.

Suffering Guaranteed for the Believer but not in vain

Prepare for suffering - It will happen - 2 Timothy 2:11-13 11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. ( 2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Trials are sent to test you! 12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. (I’ve noticed that christians tend to forget this verse when they are going through a trial. Remember, everything is a trial. Have an excellent spirit and pass the Test. It is going to be Ok!)

Psalms 119:71 71It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

The Believer has to go through the birth pangs and crushing before the born again experience - Isaiah 26:16-17  LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them. 17Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD. (Stay faithful during the trials and God will bring you through.

Micah 4:10 10Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies. ( Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this

present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.)

Zephaniah 3:11-13 11In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. 12I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. 13The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

Do not Fear! I am with you! Isaiah 41:10-1610Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. 11Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. 12Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. 13For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. 14Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. 15Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. 16Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 49:13 13Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.
