Knowing And Understanding God

daytonstreetpreach

Knowing God is Eternal Life John 17:3 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (To know God is eternal life.)

Jeremiah 9:24 24But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

Knowing and understanding God goes way deeper than just a head knowledge of the Bible. Most people that say they are God’s people are just going through the motions and not really intimately knowing God. God wants you to know Him in relationship, experiencing Him, and He wants to know you in an intimate way. He wants to have a special thing with you that is just between you and Him. Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me”. Is God real to you yet? Apostle Paul considered everything loss and dung in comparison to knowing Christ. Christ desires true deep fellowship and communion with His Covenant people. He wants there to be quality love time each day in prayer. He wants us to receive Him and to have Him be all in all in our life. The Lord is the pearl of great price. But have you found that pearl?

His will is to be One Genesis 2:21-25 21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. ( This oneness between man and wife is only possible with God. Oneness in a marriage takes two people submitted to God and His Word, and the power of the Spirit working in their daily life through a relationship with God. This oneness represents the oneness God wants with us.)

1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. (Are you just going through the motions or are you really knowing God? We see that Adam knew Eve and they conceived life. When we really know God in an intimate, sincere, truthful, humble, and contrite way there's an intimacy that breathes life into our soul. To know God is eternal life. We were made to know God and He was meant to be the pursuit of our lives. He is our exceeding great reward and our pearl of great price! He is our treasure! Everything else is dung compared to our relationship with our beloved King, God, and Father!)

We have to intimately seeking for God Jeremiah 29:11-14 11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive. (You have to be intentional to seek the Lord! Whatever it takes to be with You Lord I will pay the price. I want you, I desire you! There’s a desperation and a passion to know Him. I love Him. Nobody has to put a gun to my head. I want to serve Him and please Him in everything. Is that your testimony? Does your life testify to that?)

He wants sincerity, honesty, openness, nothing in between you. God is a passionate lover and He goes to war against anything that would taint, hinder, or pollute His children or His relationship with them. God wants us to go deeper in our love and relationship with Him.

Cleave to the Lord Forever! Deuteronomy 10:16-21 16Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. 17For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: 18He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. 19Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. 20Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. 21He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen. (But those who cleaved to the Lord of Joshua’s generation survived. Everyone else died. I believe it's the same way today.  Cleave to the Lord and abhor what is evil!)

Define Cleave 1. To stick; to adhere; to hold to.

2. To unite or be united closely in interest or affection; to adhere with strong attachment.

The Will of God is to be one with God John 17:20-26 20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. (This is the purpose of everything. That at the end of the day we would have this oneness with God. We should always remember and meditate on this reality. Am I one with God in everything? If not, Why?)

This is an invitation into an intimate relationship where everything in this life is consumed in the reality of God. You see God in everything and He is in all your thoughts. This is the new covenant and extremely exciting to the hungry God seeker. It is an adventure that will never grow dull or dead. May God open our eyes to the endless glory of our God and this reality of Him!

What does it mean to know God? Define Know - 1. To perceive with certainty; to understand clearly; to have a clear and certain perception of truth, fact, or any thing that actually exists. To know a thing pre includes all doubt or uncertainty of its existence. We know what we see with our eyes, or perceive by other senses. We know that fire and water are different substances. We know that truth and falsehood express ideas incompatible with each other.

2. In scripture, to have sexual commerce with. (Adam knew Eve)

3. To choose; to favor or take an interest in. Amos 3:10.

The New Covenant was made to know God Jeremiah 31:33-34 33But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Nothing compares to knowing Christ Philippians 3:7-10 7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

He is all I want, my only Desire Psalms 73:23-28 23Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. 25Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. 26My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. 27For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. 28But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

God Doesn’t Want to Date you! He wants marriage!

God wants commitment / God wants us to rely on Him Psalms 37:3-6 3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (Commit your ways and your works to the LORD.)

His will is mercy and reconciliation (Relationship) to all men                     2 Corinthians 5:17-18 17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Define Reconciliation [The literal sense is to call back into union.]

1. To conciliate anew; to call back into union and friendship the affections which have been alienated; to restore to friendship or favor after estrangement; as, to reconcile men or parties that have been at variance.

Are you in union with God? Define Union  1. The act of joining two or more things into one. 2. Concord; agreement and conjunction of mind, will, affections or interest. Example: Happy is the family where perfect union subsists between all its members.

I’m united with my God / He is always with me Psalms 73:23-28 23Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

God’s Will for His Beloved People Jeremiah 24:6-7 6For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up. 7And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

God wants us to seek His Face Psalms 27:7-11 7Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. 9Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. 11Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. ( To seek God’s face is an intense seeking for God. I picture drawing near to Him to see how He feels about everything. What is His facial expressions. Do you believe God will answer you? He will and He will teach you His truth if you acknowledge Him in everything you do. Forsake all to follow God! Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.)

What kind of person does God save? Psalms 17-18 17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. (God wants humility and a sincere heart. We have to be needy in the prayer room. God is our savior! We need Him for everything!)

What is He looking for as we seek Him? Relationship Psalms 51:16-19 16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. 18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. 19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

True Worship is intimate - Psalms 63:1-8 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; 2To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. 3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. 4Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. 5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. 7Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. 8My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. (Does this sound like dead religion or is David actually communing with God and experiencing Him through Worship? This is intimate worship to God from the Heart by the power of God’s Spirit!)

God likes when we listen intently and believes everything He says Isaiah 66:2 2For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. (Never doubt what God says. He is deadly serious.)

Those who know their God Daniel 11:32 32And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits

How God treasures His people

God loves His people in a different way than He loves the World. His covenant people are His inheritance and He is Jealous for them! God delights in His people and he destroys their enemies. He is greatly committed to them and expects the same back from them in return. The Bible is teaching us true covenant living, He’s teaching us how to love like Him! Let’s always believe in God and never lean on our own understanding. Let us always take God’s side in every situation. God is the good one and everyone else is always the bad guy. Let’s look at some scriptures on How God loves His people.

The Lover of the Lord just wants to please Him / Delight in me oh God Psalms 18:19 19He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 20The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. 21For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 22For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. 23I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. 24Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. (David walked before the Lord and Gloried in His Holy Name! David had a love affair with God. Daniel had a love affair with God.

We are the apple of His Eye Deuteronomy 32:9-10 9For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. 10He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. (For he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.)

Daniel was greatly beloved of the Lord 9:23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision. (Notice that Daniel was a man of prayer. He spent time with God and was completely surrendered to God’s will because He was in love with God. He deeply believed, feared, and loved God. Daniel is called “greatly beloved” three times in the book of Daniel.)

You are His Treasured People Deuteronomy 7:6-10 6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

God reveals His Name to Moses Exodus 34:5-8 5And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. 8And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 9And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

   The Bride is preparing herself

The Bride loses her name and take on his name becoming one with him in everything. Her life is laid down to be his helper and partner in everything. She has special access to him and knows everything about him. This is what marriage was meant to be and this is what the bride of Christ looks like.

We are engaged chaste virgins ready to marry our King -  2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (Remember, only 5 out of ten virgins were preparing and ready in the Lord’s Parable. Let us be a faithful lover and keep our eyes on our wedding day. Forsake all to be with Jesus.)

We are the Pure Bride of Christ Revelation 19:6-8 6And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 7Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. (We are engaged to God. We are being purified for the wedding and eternal marriage. Spend your days storing up oil and drawing near now! Those that seek the Lord will lack nothing!)

Closing thoughts: Abide in Jesus. Abide in His love! Be faithful to Him and let Him be your all in all. Let His Seed remain in you, which is His Word and the Kingdom will be birthed and flourish in you. Love Him with everything, Seek His face, Fear and reverence Him, Serve Him, Know Him intimately, Obey Him in everything, Treasure Him, Trust Him, (Believe in His character, ability, and willingness), and never be ashamed of Him. Go deeper with God in your intimacy. Take the limits off and go deeper in your intimacy with God. Write His Name on your forehead. Let Him have His way in every part of your life. May the grace and peace of the Lord be with you through a real relationship with Him!

Forgiving others is partaking in His mercy and love. It is so freeing and so powerful. Words cannot explain.
