Who Is Heir? Who Shall Receive The Blessing?

daytonstreetpreach

Everyone wants to be blessed and a lot of people say they're blessed when they are really not. Why are they not really blessed? Because they are not willing to deny themselves and live the life required for the blessing. Remember, Jesus was sent to us to bless us by turning each one of us away from our iniquities and by His grace we can do just that. But people try to take the blessing without keeping God’s conditions. But don’t be deceived!!! If you're going to be blessed you will need to follow the righteous path of true prosperity. There’s a specific way God has prescribed for the saints to be blessed and in this way He delights. As saints, our whole life is geared toward pleasing God and doing His will, just like Christ! So, today I want to talk about entering into the blessing of God and staying there.

Define BLESSING - Benediction; a wish of happiness pronounced; a prayer imploring happiness upon another.

1. A solemn prophetic benediction, in which happiness is desired, invoked or foretold. (Benediction is a blessing pronounced;Declaration spoken with divine authority.)

2. Any means of happiness; a gift, benefit or advantage; that which promotes temporal prosperity and welfare, or secures immortal felicity. Divine favor is the greatest blessing.

Biblically, there is no blessing unless they are blessed by the Lord. You are either blessed or cursed according to the bible. Proverbs 3:33 “The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.” If you are not righteous, you are under the Curse of the Law otherwise known as the Curse of the Lord!

The blessing of the Lord includes His Favor, wisdom, protection, abundance, ability, grace, joy, freedom, peace - all resting upon you and whatever you put your hand to. Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

The blessing is linked to the Altar of prayer Exodus 20:24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.

Who will be blessed? Psalms 24:3-6 3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. (Can’t get it without seeking Him. He wants us to spend time with Him everyday. God has called us in closer!)

How do we inherit a blessing? 1 Peter 3:8 8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. 10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

It’s our choice / We have to choose Deuteronomy 11:26-28 26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; 27A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. (The only way to keep God’s commandments is through His grace through a covenant relationship with Him. It is only a surrendered life that finds the strength to keep God’s commandments. And those who keep His commandments love Him and we stay in His mercies. But those who neglect their walk with God will eat the fruit of their doings.)

God wants us to succeed! Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

God’s Promises to those who Choose Him Deuteronomy 7:6-15 6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 10And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. 11Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. 12Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers: 13And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee. 14Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. 15And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Advice from a loving Father how to be blessed! 1 Chronicles 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. (You cant hide anthing from God. Do it the right way and have no regrets!)

Blessed is the Man Psalms 1-6 1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. ( The wicked have a philosophy of life. It is a way of life that this world lives by. And the church has adopted the philosophies of this world. You must abandon everything you know and start from ground zero with the Word of God!

The Blessing of the Lord Psalms 103:1-5 1{A Psalm of David.} Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Take care of God’s House and He will take care of you! Malachi 3:8-12 8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. 12And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts. (If you don’t have a home church pray where you should give?)

The Lord wants to bless us Psalms 115:12-17 12The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. 13He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. 14The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. 15Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth. 16The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men. 17The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. 18But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.

Who will inherit? Revelation 21:7 7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (Why does He say we will inherit? Because we are His Son/Daughters.)

What will we inherit? We will inherit Salvation most importantly. In the Old Testament times it was taught as inheriting the land. And we will inherit all things. We are inheriting it through adoption. Jesus is the heir. We are adopted into co-heirs through Him! John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

Galatians 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (Angels are not sons of God. They are not heirs. Hebrews 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?)

Who is the Heir? In the parable of the wicked Tenants Mark 12:6-7 6Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. 7But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.

Co-heirs with Christ Romans 8:13 13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (So Christ is the heir because He is the only begotten son. We are heirs because we have been adopted by God through Him so now we share in the inheritance that is Christ’s. So Israel is a type of Christ because everyone who is israel is going to gain the inheritance. Glory to God!!!)

Adopted by God Ephesians 1:3-5  3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.

The Firstborn gets the inheritance

Who is God’s Firstborn Exodus 4:22 Israel is God’s Firstborn Son And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: (Israel is a type of Christ. Christ was the Firstborn of God and the Only Begotten Son.)

The Firstborn had certain rights

Two things given to the Firstborn:

  1. The Birth right

  2. The Blessing

What is the difference between the birthright and the blessing?

The Birthright had to do with the physical inheritance. The oldest son would have a double portion of the inheritance. So if there were three children. The inheritance would be split up into fourths and the eldest would receive two portions. He would normally get the property and would be in charge of running everything and taking care of everyone once the father died.  The leader of the family was called the patriarch.

Though not commonly done, a birthright could be given to another son. For example, "Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel-he was indeed the firstborn, but because he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright; yet Judah prevailed over his brothers, and from him came a ruler, although the birthright was Joseph's" (I Chronicles 5:1-2). Because Reuben had sex with his father's concubine, Jacob took away his second portion and gave it to Joseph. He did this by making Joseph's own children count as his children. Since Joseph had two sons, those sons each got a portion of Jacob's estate; thus giving Joseph's family a double portion.

What about the Blessing? The family blessing was a way to designate who became the head of the extended family when the father died. Like the birthright, the blessing generally went to the firstborn son but not always. Again using Jacob's family, Reuben should have received the blessing, but because of his sin, he was skipped. Next in line was Simeon, but he and his brother Levi (third in line) had destroyed a town in anger over the rape of their sister. For that Jacob decided that they were not suitable to lead the family. Therefore, the blessing came to Judah. Thus, in Jacob's family, the person receiving the blessing and the person receiving the birthright (or double portion) were two different people.

The blessing in Abraham's descendants was particularly important because God stated to Abraham that from his descendants the Savior of the world would come. The blessing followed the path of those who were Jesus' ancestors. Jesus was a descendant of Judah, who had received Jacob's blessing (Hebrews 7:14). (LaVistachurchofchrist.org)

The Blessing of Abraham

The Blessing of Abraham Genesis 28:3-4 3And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people; 4And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. (Jacob went out to receive the blessing of Abraham.)

What is the Blessing of Abraham? Genesis 12:1-3 1Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

The blessing of Abraham was a blood covering over his sins because of his faith and hope in the sacrifice of the Messiah to come. And it is through faith in this sacrifice we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit it is impossible to please God! And the Bible says that Abraham pleased God and was a friend of God! This is all part of the blessing of Abraham, the Father of Faith!

The blessing of Abraham for the Gentiles too! Galatians 3:10-14 10For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (You see, the blessing of Abraham is receiving the Spirit through faith all because of Jesus Christ.)

Paul explaining the Blessing of Abraham Romans 4:3-8 3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 6Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. (This is all explaining the blessing of Abraham, The new Covenant through the blood of Jesus!)

From the start, God did not hide this plan of salvation offered to all humanity. Nor did He make it just for Israel. The promised Redeemer would come from Abraham’s “seed” for all mankind.

This blessing over Abraham was put to the test when Balaam was asked by King Balak to curse the children of Israel. We see in Numbers 23 and 24 that even though Balaam wanted the money and honor offered by Balak, he could not curse Israel because of this covering and shield over them that came through the blessing. It was only when he counseled Balak how to make Israel fall into sin through adultery and idolatry that this hedge of protection through the blessing was breached.

So we see clearly that the covenant made to Abraham was not only to Him but to all the “seed” of all time. We enter into this covenant blessing through the blood of Jesus by faith, just like Abraham!

Luke 1:72-75 72To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

We receive the Blessing by the grace of God. We will be obedient if we are under the grace of God. We will not willfully sin. We will always resist and overcome. If we do anything ignorantly or accidentally we ask for God’s forgiveness immediately when it comes to mind and the covering blessing of God remains. He keeps covenant with those that fear Him and keep His commandments.

The Blessing of the Lord! Deuteronomy 28:1-15 1And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. 3Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 4Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 5Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 7The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 8The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 9The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. 10And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. 11And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee. 12The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. 13And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: 14And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. (We have this blessing in Christ, not because of the Works of the Law. No one can be blessed by the works of the Law, because all haved sinned sometime in their past. We enter and abide by grace through faith. God Keeps us.)

Closing Verse Philippians 4:19-20 19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 20Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
